Success Stories

Our school had a parent and student die this past year. The Care Team and local agencies were here for everyone in our school’s family. Also, with help from a Care Team mini grant, we held a “Family First” evening. “Janie” was given a leadership role of greeting everyone. From that moment, her attitude changed!

A very introverted young man who was struggling in school blossomed because of Care Team’s after school mentoring and tutoring. His grades improved and he became more comfortable and confident in his peer and adult relationships.
-Coshocton HS

We started a group for students struggling with self injury. An example of this success is one young girl who had been involved in self injury was struggling a lot at the beginning of the year. By the end of the year she had a much brighter outlook – even despite lack of support from home!

-Tri Valley MS

After school programs helped “Angela”. She started off the year with lots of visits to the office and Ms. Myers. She is much improved. She needs less support now.
-Roseville ES/MS

Our homerooms are designed around common interests among youth and adults. Mr. Perkins volunteered to have the toughest homeroom - 12 boys with the biggest discipline problems. He built strong relationships helping them want to be better men and all 12 passed every core academic class!
-Maysville HS

7 kids regularly attended Summer Program. Youth were engrossed in each activity, participating well in talking and making crafts. They made kites and flew them outside together.
-Coshocton Central ES

53% of our 2008 Graduates were court involved. 2-3 years prior, none of these youth had expectations that graduation was a possibility. 12 of these youth have post secondary plans.
-Foxfire HS

Our school developed a “Because We Care” system for students so they can refer themselves or others for Care Team assistance.
-West Muskingum HS

One of the most empowering aspects of the Care Team was the strengthening of the positive relationships between the agency folks and the children. Students came to view them as individuals, mentors and role models who were committed to helping – not dictating. Our students discovered Care Team was there for everyone- not just the “Care Team kids”.
-East Muskingum MS

We offered the PICK program to discuss relationship issues. “Jerry” and “Kym” had a child and married in Fall 2007. Their relationship was “rocky” in the spring but by attending PICK and with follow up counseling they remain married and are living together with their daughter.
-Coshocton Opportunity School

“Alex”, a Care Team kid, had severe behavioral issues which impeded his learning. He was paired with a “big brother” – one of our coach/teachers- going to practices and games with him. Soon, his behavior began improving. Then, his family had a fire that destroyed his home. Our STUDENTS responded by collecting money, clothing, household goods. It was truly a school and community effort

-"The Care Team has done more for me than I can put into words. Before Care Team came into my life, I was always in trouble and one the verge of dropping out of high school. The Care Team helped me study, stay motivated in school and whenever there was a problem, they were always there to keep me from getting into trouble. They pushed me when I was ready to give up. Without Care Team, I probably would have dropped out of school, been expelled or be in juvenile detention. The Care Team helped me do a complete 180 degree turn and is directly responsible for my success. Because of Care Team, I am a high school graduate, accepted to a university, and now the whole world has been opened up to me."-Amber, a student involved in Care Team

-"Amber was at risk for being a high school dropout. The Care Team was the crucial factor responsible for her ability to remain in school, overcome her educational obstacles, subsequently complete school with such success. Today my daughter is a high school graduate. She has been given a scholarship, accepted to Urbana University, has a class ring, and is planning a bright and exciting future. We would not have foreseen such a successful outcome two years ago."-Lisa, mother of Amber

-"I have been involved in Care Team since middle school. Care Team has given me good advice, helped me organize my thoughts, help me understand the reasons for what I'm going through and are a good support when me and my family need it."-John, a student at West Muskingum High School

-"Care Team is a much needed program at every school district in the nation."-Amanda Merlo, Teacher, Maysville High School
